Heres one issue Ive come across a few times and experienced it just last week with the Certate 1003. Why does my reel feel worse after a service? Yes, this is possible in a very small number of cases. Its more common in reels with soft alloy gearing which are prone to wearing quickly. This is not always the case as Ive come across a few reels that have just been fished hard that have experienced the same issue. The reason why is due to wear in the gearing and the distribution of that worn material and any other grit inside the reel. As the gears and other internal components wear the particles make their way into all those small areas internally that open-up and holds the parts firmly in position. When a reel is serviced all the grit is removed and the parts are now allowed to move about causing the reel too feel terrible. The cure is to replace the worn parts but because it generally occurs to reels that are cheaper in the scheme of things it isnt worth paying the money knowing it will just keep on occuring. Some brands run soft alloy gearing right up their range of reels. This is rather unfortunate because those reels are typically put through some torturous situations. When it finally comes to a service it can cost more than expected to get them feeling right again.
