REEL SERVICES AUSTRALIA

The recent WA Open Fishing Competition held in Jurien Bay saw our team BLACK PEARL place 3rd overall.

This means we won an invite to the OFFSHORE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS held in COSTA RICA in 2025.

Our team also managed highest point scoring female angler for Kristy, and I managed 2 runner up positions in the 4kg and 6kg line class categories.

Its was such an amazing event and I’ll be back next year.

I currently have COVID so am a bit slow getting back into things.

Important Notice: The workshop has a significant number of reels currently in line for servicing.

Current scheduling indicates anything received now will likely have a turnaround time of approximately 4 weeks.

____________________

Also, if you complete the online booking form the next step is to send the reel/s to the PO Box indicated, or arrange a time to drop them off.

Don’t wait for me to reply, as I will only do so if you have asked me a question.

There are still a number of booking forms, in my inbox from last year, which the reels have not turned up.

____________________

NOTE: All reels go into the service que once they are received, so turnaround times are based on when I physically receive the reel/s.

The new range of PREMIUM Japanese bearings has just arrived. These start from $18+gst.

These are cheaper than most manufacturer top end bearings, but are just as good with very high load ratings, and are available for purchase NOW, just flick me an email and I can post them out.

____________________

I have ceased all rod related work.

This includes guide repairs, custom rod builds, re-builds and restoration works. The demand for reel servicing is overwhelming and is my #1 priority.

If you are local and wish to drop your reels off, or collect them, from the workshop then please note that this is by APPOINTMENT ONLY.

Thanks everyone.

Baitrunner reels are not sealed much at all, so it is important to keep them away from water splash. #reelservicesaustralia

⭐️🎣⭐️🎣⭐️BIG NEWS JUST IN⭐️🎣⭐️🎣⭐️ After a species misidentification by another team, or team BLACK PEARL, has jumped up to 3rd place overall in the WA Open held in Jurien Bay. This means we have won an invite to the Offshore World Championships in Costa Rica. I probably wont be able to attend due to the cost of it but at least we made it. But, I'm willing to take sponsorships to get there 😉 #reelservicesaustralia

It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that as many of my family and friends sign this petition as possible. Our government is out of control. They are systematically taking away our basic rights and freedoms. This can be seen in the cases of 4WDing, camping, boating/fishing, hunting, shooting, environmental destruction via implementation of 'green' energy. All these changes are making someone very rich and its not us. Please please please sign, and get anyone you know to sign. Shit is going backwards quickly and our government hasn't got a clue.

I had planned on starting work Tuesday but at this rate it wont be until after the weekend. That means an additional week delay on all reels. The unfortunate situation of being the only person doing the work in a small business. #reelservicesaustralia

Its always good to get another perspective. This great pic from Deon on Striker. What an awesome weekend it was. Now, to go through the gear and see what changes/improvements I can make for next years comp. Might have to try for a mulloway on 2kg gear 😉 Tean Black Pearl will be on their own next year as I will be back fishing on Valhalla 💪💪💪 #reelservicesaustralia #whittleywasales #whittleyboats

When you buy aftermarket handle assemblies, make sure you dismantle them, lubricate, and loctite all relevant components. Straight out of the box the bearings corrode quickly, and I've had the nut holding the handle together come undone whilst in use. If you purchase these from me, I do all of this for you before the handles leave the workshop. #reelservicesaustralia

I'm not working until the 9th. Any questions you have will need to wait until then. I'll be focused on fishing for the next week, and definitely not work. I've been fishing once in the last few months, so it's time to get back into the groove. #reelservicesaustralia

Old school SW-A Stella. Very badly corroded, with some parts seized into position, badly worn gears, and parts NLA. Not in this instance, but I never understood why, and this is so very, very common place, people LOVE a particular reel (it's their absolute favourite to use) but they never get it serviced, or have it serviced at regular intervals over its life. You service your car and outboard each year. Why not a reel, even if its every 2, 3 or 4 years. Sometimes 1 good propper service will last 5 or more years. So when it fails catastrophically, these individuals get upset, but its not the reels fault, its 100% the fault of the owner for failing to maintain it. Then they carry on because parts are not available for such an old reel, but if that reel had been looked after, it would easily have lasted another 15 years. Morning rant over. #reelservicesaustralia

The key to ensuring a reel runs correctly is to put it back together in the correct order. #reelservicesaustralia

It is important to limit the amount of water contact reels have on a boat. Spin reels will keep the water trapped inside the body, while most overheads can be flushed with a lot of fresh water. Either way, the salt will eventually cause problems. Just remember, if your reel says it has a body seal, it is common place for water to be pushed around it at high pressure. #lrcustombuiltrodsandreelservicing

This Marquesa is at the end of its life. With a distinct lack of maintenance, the salt has corroded much of the reel. If it had been serviced much earlier, the reel would still be going strong, but it now needs parts that are no longer available. The cost of neglect. #reelservicesaustralia

Most reels have a seal on the drag knob in an attempt to keep water out of the drag washers. Most drag knob seals don't work very well, but I'm sure if it wasn't on this reel, it would have been a whole lot worse. #reelservicesaustralia

It's common place seeing this type of corrosion behind the drag washer in an Avet reel. #reelservicesaustralia

After a quick couple of emails to Shimano, please note that they do not recommend utilising this type of battery on their electric reels. Utilising the standard deep cycle batteries typical of boating use when deep dropping is the recommended battery for their electric reels. I'll check with Daiwa also to see what their recommendation is. If any retailers or battery importers have had direct contact with the reel manufacturers, in relation to the use of these batteries, then I would be very interested to hear about it, so I can keep people informed. EDIT READ COMMENTS BELOW. SOME INCREDIBLY USEFUL INFORMATION. #reelservicesaustralia

Salt water will travel up and down threads. It will get trapped in these areas and start to cause corrosion. RSA Barrier Grease is perfect for these areas to stop water travel, and the corrosion inhibitor stops corrosion. #reelservicesaustralia
